A child arrives at Orran hungry and stays for years. Between the first hot meal and a first paycheck sit the programs on this page: food, school, art, a trade, a laptop, and someone to call in a crisis. The centers open five days a week in Yerevan and Vanadzor, with apprenticeships and girls’ field hockey reaching communities across Armenia.

No child learns hungry
Every Orran day starts at the table. Children get a hot, homemade meal five days a week, soup or salad, a main course, and dessert, cooked by Orran’s own cooks. It is the fixed point their week is built around. Roughly a hundred elderly neighbors living alone collect a basket of food staples each week to take home. Before COVID, elders ate at the centers; since then, baskets have included foods such as eggs, cheese, jam, ghata, and lavash.

Homework, with someone in your corner
School is hard when no one at home can help. At Orran, professional teachers supervise homework every school day and tutor the children who have fallen behind, subject by subject, until the work is theirs. Volunteers add a second pair of hands for tutoring and supervision, so each child gets individual attention.

Clay, thread, voice, and the stage
Confidence is built by making things. Orran runs studios in pottery, woodwork, sewing, and painting, and a stage program of dance, choir, mime theatre, and music. Children develop their skills and discover new interests through hands-on practice and creative expression.

ՍպորտGirls’ field hockey
A team to grow with
More than 100 girls in Yerevan, Gyumri, Vanadzor, and Hrazdan train in field hockey, building confidence, discipline, and friendships through sport. The program gives girls across Armenia a supportive place to play and develop their skills, on and off the field.
Sponsored by the Charles and Agnes Kazarian Foundation, which has supported women’s field hockey in Armenia since 2000.

Someone to talk to, and a wider world to see
Meals and homework are the visible half of an Orran day. The other half is quieter: a psychologist who knows the family, a social worker who visits the school, a day at a museum.
Support for elders
Elderly neighbors receive weekly food baskets to take home. The senior choir performs with the children’s choir and gives concerts beyond Orran. Elders also receive donated clothing when available, help navigating government agencies and pensions, and emergency assistance for needs such as medicine.
Psychological help
Orran's psychologists build a real relationship with the children and their families, and counseling is personal and ongoing. The point is a place where everyone feels heard, valued, and steady.
Social services
Social workers support children at school and at home. Alongside meals, homework help, and workshops, children receive clothing, Christmas gifts, winter shoes, school uniforms, and supplies. When a family faces eviction or an electricity shutoff, Orran may help cover a month’s rent or an urgent utility bill.
An open door
Support reaches beyond the centers, including refugees from Lebanon, Syria, and Artsakh. People who come to Orran for help are offered what is available, whether a blanket, a food basket, or a toy for a child.
Cultural enrichment
Field trips to museums, historical sites, theaters, and amusement parks. Curiosity about art, history, and the wider world is part of growing up at Orran.

A trade becomes a wage
Teenagers who grow up at Orran are paired with skilled craftsmen and learn a real trade beside them. It is the last mile of the whole model: a child who arrived hungry leaves with a skill the market pays for.
The program also reaches into remote rural and border communities, teaching young people a craft or a profession and coaching them, financially and personally, toward a stable career.

Pottery, woodwork, and now Python
In 2024 Orran opened a computer and robotics workshop beside the potters’ wheels. The Orran AI Fund grows it into a full AI-literacy track, so the children Armenia’s tech boom would otherwise pass by are learning to build with it.

When the worst happens, Orran is already there
Alongside the daily programs, Orran’s psychologists and social workers carry families through crises, with counseling, clothing, and school supplies for the children who need them most. When war displaced tens of thousands from Artsakh, Orran opened its doors wider.
